Spruce Kings fall 5-4 to Eagles

0 7

The Prince George Spruce Kings dropped their fourth straight game on Friday night, 5-4 to the Surrey Eagles.

The Eagles jumped out ahead in the first period with a pair of goals from captain Jackson Anderson. At 14:08, Anderson beat Carter Wishart on a one-timer off a pass from Jagjeevan Phangura.

Just 2:32 later, Anderson snapped the puck past Wishart to make it 2-0.  Sihwan Kim went to pass the puck across the attacking zone and fanned on it, leaving it there for Anderson’s 3rd of the season.

In the second period, newcomer Ethan Montroy got the Spruce Kings on the board  at 1:26, as Skogen Schrott dropped a pass back to the Cornwall, Ontario product who beat Jaiden Sharma. Erik Sollied got the second assist as he spun around to pass it to Schrott.

It was Schrott that tied it up at 9:47 in the middle frame, as he hammered a slapshot top corner on the power play. Evan Bellamy and Brogan McNiel drew the assists.

Phangura would give the Eagles the lead again at 14:27, as he tapped one over the line. There was a length review over whether or not Dean Toskos batted it in with a hand, but Phangura got his stick on the puck which had hit Toskos in the chest.

With 37.8 seconds remaining in the period, Kazumo Sasaki knocked down a Linden Makow shot and was able to tuck it around Sharma to tie the game at three. Zachary Hachey drew the second assist.

Just 42 seconds into the 3rd period, Massimo Fazio took advantage of a miscue by the Spruce Kings Sollied, who lost his balance as he went to receive a pass, and beat Wishart to give the Eagles the lead once again.

Lucas Veilleux got the game on even terms again as he got his first of the year. Ethan Montroy separated his man from the puck and with a give and go to Veilleux, the game was level for the third time.

As each team searched for the go ahead goal, Ryan Evenhuis got a a rebound off of Wishart and flipped it over the netminder to take a 5-4 lead with 2:01 remaining.

The Spruce Kings got Wishart to the bench, but a boarding penalty derailed the opportunity to tie the game.
