2022 Canadian Ringette Championship declared a True Sport event

0 5

Ottawa, March 3rd, 2022 – Every year, millions of Canadians come together through sport. In every province and territory, community sport inspires friendship, learning, health, and personal growth. Canadians tell researchers that after the family, sport is the most powerful influence on young people’s development.

In recognition of the belief that good sport can make a great difference; Ringette Canada has declared the 2022 Canadian Ringette Championships in Calgary a True Sport event. The event gets underway in Calgary Alberta on April 3rd 2022. Forty-five teams from across the country will compete for national titles in the U16 and U19 divisions, as well as the National Ringette League championship.

Ringette Canada is dedicated to True Sport and is committed  to inspiring youth to practice values-based sport. True Sport is Ringette Canada’s approach to values-based sport and is underpinned by seven principles. When “Go For It, Play Fair, Respect Others, Keep It Fun, Stay Healthy, Include Everyone, and Give Back” are activated in sports environments, it leads to a good sports culture.

“We are very pleased to declare the 2022 Canadian Ringette Championships a True Sport event,” said Natasha Johnston, Executive Director, Ringette Canada. “Both Ringette Alberta and Ringette Canada are proud champions of the True Sport Movement and we encourage everyone involved in the event to live the True Sport principles.  This event has not run for the past few years because of the pandemic so we are very excited to be hitting the ice in Calgary”

As a declared member, Ringette Canada is already committed to True Sport. By declaring the 2022 Canadian Ringette Championships a True Sport event, Ringette Canada aims to bring awareness to True Sport and show the Canadian sport community the culture of ringette and bring the value of good sport to ringette athletes, coaches, officials, associations, and fans.

“We are thrilled that Ringette Canada has declared their 2022 Canadian Ringette Championships a True Sport event. Their long-term commitment to True Sport has ensured that ringette athletes at all levels benefit from values-based sport,” said Karri Dawson, Senior Director, Quality Sport at the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport. “I hope the Championships are a fair, inclusive, and fun experience for all participants!”

Good sport does not happen by chance. Sport falls short of its potential when negative behaviour gets in the way of the positive things sport can teach us about working together, respecting each other’s efforts, and handling both victory and defeat with the grace of a champion.
