[Men's Golf] Tichler and Burd lead Bees at Nationals as SAU narrowly misses cut

NAIA release

For the second straight year, the Bees narrowly missed the cut at the NAIA Men's Golf National Championships. After missing the final round by two shots last year, St. Ambrose came up just three shots short of advancing to the final two rounds at the 2017 National Tournament hosted by SAU at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.

Weather, which made an impact throughout the week, had golfers battling a variety of conditions - heat, rain, wind and cold. Storms forced second-round delays and ultimately forced the tournament to make its cut following the round, a round earlier than anticipated. With a 625 total, St. Ambrose finished three shots behind Madonna and finished in 18th place as the top 17 teams in the 29-team field advanced to Thursday and Friday's play.

Senior Paul Burd and junior Andrew Tichler made the cut individually after getting inside the top 40 after two rounds.

Burd finished 43th overall after shooting a 311 (77-75-76-83) over his four rounds. Tichler, the only non-senior competing for the Bees, closed his season with a 329 (75-77-89-88).
