Saint Rose golf headed to NCAA Championship

For the first time in the college's history, the College of Saint Rose men's golf team will be competing in the Division II NCAA Championships.

Purcell took medalist honors at the Northeast-10 Tournament (Oct. 2-3) with a 69-71—140 to help the Golden Knights finish third out of 10 schools.

The 5-foot-10 right-hander from Latham (Albany Academy) has worked 34 innings and has given up 34 hits and 21 runs, 19 earned, with 19 walks and 20 strikeouts.

Allison Ford of Mechanicville (Mechanicville High) had just one hit for the day but she picked up her ninth victory against seven losses in the five-inning second game, giving up six hits and two earned runs with no walks and four strikeouts.

On Sunday, freshman Joe Montesanti of Niskayuna (Colonie High) hit a three-run home run and freshman Danny Coleman of Saratoga Springs (Saratoga High) a two-run shot in the first game.
