Here is what my first day at LIV Golf Dallas was like

Here is what my first day at LIV Golf Dallas was like.

It is definitely different.

I have had the fortune of doing and seeing a lot of things in the world of golf and on Friday I did something that I never had in experiencing an event put on by LIV Golf. Friday marked the beginning of LIV Golf Dallas and I, our resident Dallas Cowboys expert around these parts, figured this was the perfect place to check out what LIV is all about.

You may have heard that LIV is different from what you thought professional golf is or was like. It certainly is.

Friday featured a ton of golf, let’s set that straight. Harold Varner and Patrick Reed, teammates on 4Aces, finished the first round tied for the lead at 5-under as proof of it.

But LIV is quite the experience in terms of things happening outside of the actual golf. If I had to describe it in any sort of way it feels like a festival happening where world-class golf is the main act that is accessible at any point on property.

This is partly the case for LIV given their shotgun start. Action began at Maridoe Golf Club at 11:05am local time and you could step foot anywhere you wanted to visit any hole and be a part of the experience.

Fantastic food options are around every corner where all sorts of families and groups are gathered. Walking around the property I saw full-on family groups, young friends sporting merchandise from famous YouTube golf creators and golf enthusiasts with merchandise from tournaments like the Open Championship. All points of the spectrum were represented.

One of the things I found interesting is that LIV has an equipment truck on the property that travels from tournament to tournament. This truck stays through the entire competition, a detail that is different on other tours in golf, and exists as a place for the golfers to tinker with their equipment on a moment’s notice. If a degree needs to be altered or a shaft doesn’t feel right or any other number of hypotheticals... they can tend to it in the name of giving each athlete the best chance possible in the competition at hand.

If you want a more upscale experience at LIV Golf you can spring for Club 54, another point on property where you can enter (only the pros get to enter the equipment truck, obviously). A wide array of food options exist, all that I saw looked incredible... there were even brownies shaped like golf balls, and there are a number of cooling mechanisms in place to keep things comfortable when it’s hot like it was on Friday at Maridoe. If you want a more energetic experience you can head to the Birdie Shack where equally delicious options await alongside a vibe that is a bit more loud and dialed up.

This ultimately describes what LIV was and is in my estimation. By now people are aware of what they think are the differences in it with it being a shotgun start, “only” being 54 holes and whatever else you want to add to the list for conjecture. While you can hunt for things you may not like what I experienced was golf played at the highest level possible with fans from all walks of life and with varying levels of experience in golf at large enjoying it at a maximum level. Who can’t get on board with that?

Every part of my Friday at LIV Golf Dallas was fun and filled my cup as a huge golf fan. I even changed my mind on the shotgun start of it all (I was initially against this) given that I was out of the event well in time to enjoy the rest of my Friday. There is room for everything in golf, at least there should be, and I am a fan of the room that LIV is becoming. I’m looking forward to what Saturday brings and sharing my thoughts from there as well.

If only the Texas heat could calm down a little!
