Greystones Golf Club Match Reports: Two Weeks of Thrilling Matches and Dramatic Finishes

It’s been a busy and exciting two weeks for Greystones Golf Club, with our teams in action across a range of inter-club competitions.

Here’s a full round-up of all the latest results:

Saturday 7th June – Irish Mixed Foursomes vs Woodbrook
Our Irish Mixed Foursomes team battled hard against Woodbrook in a nail-biting contest. At home, Eddie Lonergan and Regina Connaughton delivered a strong win, 3&2, as did Alan Keane and Helen Creedon with the same 3&2 scoreline. Unfortunately, away pairs Barry O’Leary & Patricia and Des Hickey & Sandra lost their matches 4&3 and 6&5 respectively. The overall match finished 2-2 and went to a playoff at Woodbrook, where Greystones narrowly missed out.

Sunday 8th June – Junior Cup vs Carton House
The Junior Cup team produced a fantastic performance, securing a convincing 4-1 victory over Carton House. Eddie Lonergan set the tone with a commanding 5&4 win at home, while Chris Lawless triumphed 3&1 on the road at Carton House. Cian Gilmore clinched the winning point with another 3&1 victory. Alan Keane and Conor McAleer were both called in but were both up in each of their matches.

Sunday 8th June – Leinster Men’s Trophy vs Stackstown
In the Leinster Men’s Trophy clash, Greystones faced a tough challenge against Stackstown. Despite a tight battle fought both home and away, Stackstown emerged victorious. Hard luck to all players and management for a valiant effort.

Thursday 12th June – JB Carr vs Tullamore
The JB Carr team put in a brilliant performance in Leinster against Tullamore, battling through dreadful conditions to secure an impressive victory. Colm Mulcahy and Gerry Kenny led the way with a 5&4 win, followed by Henry Gilbert and Kevin Barry who won 3&2. Martin Nolan and John Egan secured the deciding point with another 3&2 win. Barry Massey and Gerry Browner halved their match on the 18th, while Walter Gilbert and David O’Toole were called in on the 16th. A great team effort and a deserved progression—congratulations to both players and management.

Sunday 15th June – Barton Cup vs Wicklow
Hard luck to our Barton Cup team who faced a strong Wicklow side and came up short on the day. Despite the best efforts from the squad, Wicklow proved too strong across the board. A tough result, but the team will take the positives and bounce back.

Sunday 15th June – Senior Cup (Barton Shield) vs Lisheen Springs
The Senior Cup team delivered a dominant display in the Barton Shield against Lisheen Springs, with both matches played at home. Alan Condren and Shane O’Connor cruised to a 5&4 win, while David Byrne and Darren McCormack sealed the tie in style with a commanding 6&5 victory. Congratulations to the players and management on a superb performance.

Sunday 15th June – Mixed Fourball vs Milltown
Hard luck to our Mixed Fourball team who came up against a very strong Milltown side. Despite a great effort from all involved, it wasn’t our day as Milltown proved too strong throughout.
