Greystones Secure Hard-Fought Victory Over Deer Park in the Best Cup

Last Thursday saw a tense Best Cup encounter between Greystones Golf Club and Deer Park Golf Club, with matches played both at home and away. In good golfing conditions, Greystones demonstrated their fighting spirit to secure a narrow 3.5 to 1.5 victory.

The away matches for Greystones began with Pat Tracey and Brian O’Connor involved in a tight battle at Deer Park that went to the final green, with the Greystones duo holding their nerve to clinch a vital win on the 18th hole. Chris Corrigan and Jimmy Hempenstall faced a tough Deer Park pairing and ultimately lost their match 3&2. The third away match saw Maurice Bracken and Joe Grennan face a determined Deer Park pairing, resulting in a hard-fought half after 18 holes requiring extra play-off holes to decide.

Meanwhile in Greystones, John Cogavin and Ray Hogan faced their Deer Park opponents. This closely fought match went down to the wire, with John and Ray securing a hard-earned victory on the 18th hole. The final home match saw Eddie Murtagh and Dermot Whiston also engage in a tight encounter that went to the last hole, where they held their nerve to secure another win for Greystones on the 18th.

With two wins in the home matches and one win away, Greystones narrowly edged out Deer Park with a final score of 3.5 to 1.5.
