Golf tips, free bets and latest odds for the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town

0 13

Let’s face it, if Scottie Scheffler is not distracted by the prospect of becoming a dad next week – or too frazzled by the effort it took to win the Masters – he will probably romp home in this week’s RBC Heritage event.

Scheffler’s four shot triumph at Augusta was his third win in his last four starts – sandwiched around a ‘disappointing’ second in Houston.

He looks almost invincible at the moment. And the scary aspect of his second Masters victory was the fact he did not seem to have his best stuff with him at Augusta. Yet the result was never really in doubt.

His 4-1 odds at Augusta ended up looking generous, and he is quoted at the same price this week. With less than seventy rivals to contend with in this Signature event at Hilton Head, he could again hit the bookies in the pocket again.

BUT – if wife Meredith shows signs of giving birth, he will be out of town like a shot. Add in the draining effects of his Masters win – and a failure to make the top ten here last year – and he is worth taking on.

At least with a few players who also offer each way value.

How to bet on golf

Here are five easy steps for beginners.

1. Choose Your Favourite Sportsbook – there are plenty to choose from and most have their own app or mobile site.

2. Make a Deposit – each sportsbook will walk you through how to connect your bank account to their system including providing a list of all the safeguards they have set up to ensure the safety of your transactions.

3. Claim Your Bonuses – most sportsbooks offers bonuses to first time bettors in the form of free bets.

4. Place Your Bet – now it’s time to navigate through your sportsbook’s odds where they will offer a variety of options including outright winners, or top finishing positions, such as top 10 or 20, or even to make the cut. For the event this week each way odds are generally paid on the top eight players.

5. Collect Your Winnings – If you’re successful you will be able to withdraw your winnings once the bet is complete. Some bookmakers offer cashout options on certain bets as well, which is worth keeping an eye on.

Where to find the best odds for the golf?

Lots of bookmakers have different options for betting on the golf this week, including competitive odds and different place markets.

We like the markets on bet365, including the price boosts on offer pre-event.

RBC Heritage betting tips

Plenty of punters will regard world No 2 Rory McIlroy as an attractive proposition at 14-1. Bue there was no spark in him at Augusta, and he has not even made the top 40 in his two previous visits to Hilton Head.

Defending champion Matt Fitzpatrick loves this course. He also has a fourth place to his credit, and a couple more top 15s. At 25-1, he is worth backing to make a successful defence.

Fitzpatrick overcame Jordan Spieth in a play-off last year – 12 months after Spieth beat Patrick Cantlay in sudden death.

That makes Spieth’s 33-1 odds look attractive. If only he wasn’t so maddeningly inconsistent, as he showed again when missing the cut in the Masters, another event that looks tailor-made for him.

Cantlay did much better at Augusta, and he followed up his play-off defeat in 2022 by finishing third last year. He is not one of my favourite players – but if he wins at 16-1, I might just change my opinion.

Tommy Fleetwood is a player EVERYONE loves. After a top ten in Texas and a share of third in the Masters, he is definitely trending in  the right direction. At 20-1, he also has to be considered.

Among the outsiders, the name that sticks out is that of Australian Cam Davis, at a general 66-1.

His name kept popping up on the Masters leaderboard, but his lack of experience in the big events was obvious as he stumbled to a final round 75.

He still finished 12th at Augusta, and he looked  like he was enjoying himself when he ended up in a share of seventh here last year.

Brendon Todd’s world ranking – in the 60s- was not good enough to earn him a place in  the Masters line-up.

But two top tens in his last four starts suggest he can earn plenty of world ranking points here – and maybe reward each way support at a best priced 90-1.

And one more shout-out for Nick Dunlap. He almost did us a favour in the each way market at 250-1 in Houston, finishing in a share of 11th.

He is 200-1 this week. I am prepared to overlook his missed cut at Augusta and suggest a small interest.
