Captains Corner – January 2022
Good day everyone and compliments of the season to all members and family and friends. I sincerely hope you all had a fantastic festive period and that you are now safe and sound back at home. I hope to see you all back at the club in the very near future. I noticed that the timesheet is very full for the weekend, so looking forward to a good time at the club.
Just for your information we had a good December and came very close to achieving our target.
Sadly, we lost two of our afternoon field members. They are Dave Jackson and Brian Moore. Our condolences go out to both their families.
Monthly Medal
The Monthly Medal competition for 2021 was won by Calvin Caldeira with an average of 72,71. Great consistent golf Calvin. Stan Johnson came second with an average of 73,43. That was amazing Stan, always a consistent golfer. Well done to the top 5 medal golfers at our club. I do feel that the competition was enjoyed by all, and this year’s season starts on 15th January. The monthly medal is played every third Saturday of the month and you need to play in 7 of the 11 (January – November) days to qualify to be the overall annual winner.
Permanent Tee Markers (PTM’s)
What are Permanent Tee Markers (PTM’s)? Every hole on a golf course is measured from a point (Yellow, White, Blue, or Red) on the tee box to the centre of the green and these distances are the ones reflected on the scorecard. These distances are then totalled together and that gives you the total length of the course. When the golf Director/Manager sets up the course there should not be a total difference of 100 meters longer or shorter than the total on the scorecard because that is an extra shot, or a shot less than originally prescribed and could influence the course rating. A tee box should not be positioned more than 20 meters away from the Permanent Tee Marker, forward or behind.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Gavin Stewart on our PTM’s, they certainly qualify as some of the best I have seen on various courses.
Leagues
All the new leagues will soon be getting underway, and we look forward to a great season ahead. Our Scratch league B side still has one more game from last year and they still stand a very good chance of winning that league. They just need to win their last game against CMR on Sunday 13th February to give us an opportunity to win the league.
Our first Captain’s Draw will take place on 28th January, and I am looking forward to seeing lots of our members on that evening. We do have live entertainment arranged and Rusty will have some great specials for sale.
The club championships for this year are planned for the 26/27th February and I am urging you all to enter because this could be an extra special weekend with lots of prizes and entertainment.
I picked up this comment about our course on the list of the top 100 courses, where we were 71st by the way.
What makes me feel especially proud is the fact that he says we are the friendliest and most welcoming club in the rankings. I think that’s awesome and let’s keep it up, from the staff in the Proshop to the halfway house and top management. Well done guys and girls.
