Emily Odwin Continues to Rise in the Golf World

Local golf star Emily has become the first Barbadian female to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championships.

She made the cut after placing 2nd in the New York state sectional qualifying event, which was played at the Sunningdale Country Club. Her five under par score of 66 was one shot behind the USA winner.

Odwin agreed that the difficult Sunningdale course, which measures a 6,150 par 71, was really tough to play but she tried to hit as many fairways as possible. The 17-year old golfer hit 17 greens in regulation and made six birdies.

Odwin will continue to take on the best female amateur golfers from around the world in the next few months. She will compete in the 72nd U.S. Girls’ Junior Championships in July, followed by the 121st U.S. Women’s Amateur Championships in august.

Congratulations to both of these young golfers!
