Report: Rickie Fowler and John Catlin Granted Special Invitations to the 2021 PGA Championship
The 2021 PGA Championship at Kiawah Island Golf Resort wasn’t expected to include Rickie Fowler this season, but that changed Tuesday afternoon after it was reported that he and John Catlin were granted special invitations.

The invitation to Fowler is puzzling because, in 2021, Fowler has missed three cuts in nine events, and his best finish is a T17 at the Valero Texas Open. Additionally — in the events Fowler has made the cut — he has three finishes outside the top 50. Fowler’s Strokes Gained metrics coincide with his poor play on the course as he ranks 132nd in Total Strokes Gained, including 128th in Strokes Gained: Approach since January, per Data Golf.
Meanwhile, Catlin’s invitation may be more deserving considering he has three wins since 2020, including a win a few weeks ago at the Austrian Golf Open.
It’s hard to imagine Rickie will contend at the PGA Championship, considering his form just isn’t there anymore. FanDuel Sportsbook currently has Dustin Johnson (+1100) as the favorite for the upcoming major.
