It's close to a useful rule of thumb in the correct context - if you have trouble distinguishing whether that ball you have played is a substituted versus wrong ball. But this suggestion has no general rules authority to change the status of a ball played as a wrong ball into a substituted ball.ruler wrote: ↑2:56 AM - TodayMy rule of thumb is that once a player has a ball in his hands, it's available for him to identify it. If he then puts that ball in play, it's his ball in play, no longer a wrong ball (as Doug has said). There is one exception - when a player marks his ball and sets it aside without intending it to be in play and plays it from where he set it aside, that is now a wrong ball.
I'd be pleased to see you demonstrate this is wrong - I'm always keen to learn something new about the rules.
