GolfNorth Properties and Ironwood Owners Purchase Exeter Golf Club
GolfNorth Properties (Canada’s largest consolidator of public golf courses), and the Dow family (owners of Ironwood Golf Club); have purchased Exeter Golf Club (Exeter, Ontario) from former owner Jeff Kints. Ironwood Golf Club is currently operated by GolfNorth under a long-term lease, and the proximity of Exeter Golf Club creates an excellent opportunity for area golfers to have access to both properties. GolfNorth will handle day to day operations going forward and look forward to bringing the core of the existing Exeter team into the fold. GolfNorth is happy to honour any pre-existing arrangements with tournaments, events, or weddings that are already booked (or in the process). Please contact Rochelle at manager.exeter@golfnorth.ca for confirmation or any new events.
Exeter Golf Club was established in 1961, near the beaches of Lake Huron, when a local farmer converted his property into a 9-Hole golf club. Exeter is well known for supplying their hardworking community with an entertaining golf course, alongside rustic, homemade comfort food and drinks served from a mason jar. The Barn Restaurant & Pub is open to the public from mid-April through October. The unique 100+ year old “Barn” is also a fully renovated banquet facility and an extremely popular wedding venue.
Ironwood’s original 9-hole layout was built in 1965 by the Dow family from Exeter. In 1990, they commissioned the current 18-hole design under the architectural vision of John F. Robinson (Whistle Bear, Conestoga, Settlers’ Ghost), who took remarkable care in maximizing the use of the gently rolling, forested hills to both scenic and strategic advantage. The Clubhouse was completed in 2003 and has quickly become a favourite place for guests to celebrate their happiest occasions. Its comfortable, elegant setting has made the clubhouse a top-of-mind location for all kinds of events, from weddings, to tournaments, to corporate outings, or just a place for a pleasant meal with friends or family.
According to Ironwood owner Gib Dow, “It’s the best of both worlds. Local ownership partnering with GolfNorth Properties means that golfers will see great value and opportunities to play multiple courses, or just keep playing Exeter or Ironwood. It’s all about options.” Exeter Golf Course owner, Jeff Kints, wants to thank golfers for their support over the years, “We have hosted many events and tournaments, had some great times, and without the outstanding support and hard work of all our past and present employees, Exeter Golf Club / The Barn would not be what it is today. As well, I couldn’t be happier having the Dow family (a longtime family friend), along with GolfNorth, assuming ownership to create synergies between both courses, which add more value and opportunity to the local community!”
GolfNorth Properties is a Golf and Resort management company, based in Kitchener-Waterloo Ontario. Founded in 1994, the company has expanded steadily and is a national leader in the consolidation and management of golf properties. With the addition of Exeter Golf Club, GolfNorth now operates 33 golf properties in Canada, from British Columbia to Cape Breton, three of which are ranked in the Score Golf Top 100.
“We are thrilled to be adding Exeter Golf Club and anticipate that there will be many golfers who will enjoy playing both Ironwood and Exeter with a reciprocal membership,” said GolfNorth President and CEO, Shawn Evans. The Fox (Granton), Sand Hills (Port Franks), and Forest (Forest) are all just a short drive away as well.
