U.S. Women’s Amateur: Lucy Li wins big; Yealimi Noh eliminated
Lucy Li barreled into the round of 16 at the U.S. Women’s Amateur in Tennessee with an overpowering Thursday morning win, but Concord’s Yealimi Noh was ousted in a thrilling 23-hole loss.
Li, the history-making 15-year-old from Redwood City, lived up to her No. 1 match play seeding by beating Alice Duan of Reno 7-and-5 at the Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs.
Duan didn’t win a hole as Li birdied four of the first six holes. On Tuesday, Li — already the youngest competitor to play in the Women’s Amateur (when she was 10) and qualify for the Women’s U.S. Open (when she was 11) — became only the third woman to be the low medalist in both the Women’s Amateur and the U.S.
