Symetra tour players, pros turn to fitness for results
Watching Symetra Tour players compete last weekend for the Fuccillo Kia Classic's $125,000 purse at Capital Hills, it was often tough to figure out who you were watching. The main reason is many of the golfers carry their own golf bags up and down the grueling hills surrounding the Normans Kill Creek. Players who don't haul their own clubs are easy to spot because caddies wear a vest with players' names on their backs. Golf is a grueling sport, both physically and mentally. Walking a course while carrying a bag or pushing a cart takes stamina. It was especially difficult trudging through muddy fairways last weekend thanks to the Friday and Saturday storms that led to the event being reduced to a 36-hole championship.
As part of their roles giving back to the game and the towns that support their tour, Symetra tour golfers Gabriella Then and Victoria Morgan teamed up to demonstrate exercises specifically to achieve golf fitness during a 90-minute clinic at Vent Fitness in Guilderland in the days leading up to the Albany tour stop.
