[General] Coach Ballou Retires after 10 years of Leading the Men's and Women's Golf Teams
David Ballou came to Brescia University in 2005 and spent two years as the assistant men's and women's coach. Two short years later David was named Head Men's and Women's Coach. In his new role, Coach Ballou quickly began to make a name for himself and Brescia University within the conference and at the national level. Coach Ballou was named KIAC Conference Coach of the Year seven times, winning a combined total of 13 KIAC Conference Championships, and having five National Tournament appearances. He also severed five years (2012-2016) as the chair for KIAC Men's and Women's Golf.
Men's Team:
His team won the KIAC Conference Tournament five times in a row (2008-2012) and were runner-up in 2013 and 2014. He took the men's team to the NAIA National Tournament two times, 2012 and 2015. Coach Ballou took Will Makenzie all the way to the NAIA National Tournament individually in 2014. Along with the success his athletes achieved on the course, they also were successful in the classroom. His team was NAIA Academic All-Americans in 2015 and 2016.
Women's Team:
His team won the KIAC Conference Tournament eight times in a row (2007-2014) and were runner-up in 2015. Coach Ballou took the women's team to the NAIA National Tournament two times, 2013 and 2014. The women's team also were successful in the classroom, being named NAIA Academic All-Americans in 2015 and 2016.
Coach Ballou was asked to share about his time as coach at Brescia University. He had this to say, "I greatly enjoyed my time at Brescia University. I am happy with all the success that my athletes have seen over the years on the course, but am more proud as I get to watch what they become once they graduate." That is why many coaches, like Coach Ballou, do what they do. They spend countless hours investing in the lives of these young men and women, hoping that once athletics is over, they are successful in life. Coach Ballou went on to say, "The worst thing about coaching is when you have to quit."
Brian Skortz, Director of Athletics, "I want to thank David for his many years of service to our University. He is one of the most accomplished coaches ever at Brescia. One thing that sticks out to me the most is not his many Conference Championships and National Tournament appearance, but his ability to connect and guide his athletes in being the best they can be. His teams have always been near the top in team GPA. David's passion and leadership in working with these young men and women and getting the most out of their abilities has been incredible to see. I wish David nothing but the very best in his retirement."
