Troy Country Club discovers keys to inviting invy
Another big week for women golfers in the Capital Region starts Monday as one of the most popular tournaments, the Country Club of Troy Women's Invitational, kicks off. The tournament also was inclusive, meaning golfers didn't have to belong to a country club to play. The women just had to have fun playing golf and leave the event making new friends, she said. Donna Heskett, a tournament regular who plays out of Burden Lake, is responsible for adding some side wages to make the tournament even more enjoyable — for those who cash in anyway. While many clubs have reverted to an every-other-year invitational or dropped its event from two days to one, Troy has maintained its status as a sold-out two-day celebration of women and the sport of golf. Each of four stroke-play flights in the Chapter Championship produced individual gross and net winners who are eligible to advance, along with two scramble teams, to the EWGA Northeastern regional competition Aug. 12 at Victor Hills.
