Report: Tottenham plot bid for Switzerland star this summer

0 6

According to The Mirror, Nuno Espirito Santo wants to bolster his Tottenham attack with Switzerland striker Haris Seferovic this summer.

The Euro 2020 star scored a brace against France which shocked the world and knocked the 2018 World Cup winners out of the tournament in the Round of 16. Switzerland, after their memorable night against Les Blues, then lost out to Spain on penalties.

The 29-year-old also had a very good year at club level with Benfica, scoring 22 goals in Liga Nos (Transfermarkt).

With doubts over Harry Kane’s future and Carlos Vinicius returning to parent club Benfica, another deal between the two clubs could make sense.

Vinicius was reliable in cup competitions but rarely threatened or got the chance to play in the Premier League. A backup striker, at least, is required for Spurs this window and Seferovic could be exactly that.

Seferovic’s stock has risen after an impressive Euro 2020 tournament and his contract, which lasts until 2024, has a buy-out of £50 million, although he is expected to go for around £20-£25m.

Seferovic is a good player, simple as that. The striker is intelligent and also a very good physical threat.

Tottenham have been desperate for a Kane back-up, and while Seferovic wouldn’t come near to threatening Kane’s position – he’s a player that could fill in and take the burden off him.

There is a great irony, however, that Spurs brought in a striker that did well for Benfica in the shape of Vinicius only for his replacement to be another striker that has just done well for Benfica.
