Nigeria's special football team suffer another defeat at the 2018 World Cup

- The Special Eagles suffered their second defeat at the ongoing 2018 Amputees Football World Cup in Mexico

- They lost 3-0 to defending champions Russia at the Lomas Verdes Centre on Monday

- The team will now battle El Salvador in their third group game and hopefully score their first goal of the competition

Nigeria Amputees football team were beaten 3-0 by defending champions Russia in their second group game at the Lomas Verdes Centre on Monday, October 30.

Goals from Igor, Adam Mesiev and Dmitri Udalov ensured the European contingent emerged victorious in that meeting.

It will be recalled that the Special Eagles suffered a 6-0 defeat to Brazil in their opening fixture at the ongoing 2018 Amputees Football World Cup in Mexico.

And this now means that they have lost their first two games ahead of their third group game against El Salvador on Tuesday.

According to Gong News, the Nigerian contingent left for the event with a scanty reserve bench coupled with injury to top player, Bamgbopa Abayomi.

Nigeria's next opponent, El Salvador also lost to Brazil by a lone goal in their second group game, and the Special Eagles will hope they can cause an upset in that meeting.

This is the first time coach Victor Nwenwe and his men are appearing at the competition having missed out of the last three editions owing to lack of funds.

In other fixtures, Angola, African champions and finalists at the last World Cup, defeated Spain through Celestino Elias lone goal, while Kenya beat the USA by 2-1. Liberia however lost to former champions, Turkey.

Legit.ng previously reported that Nigeria's amputee football team got their 2018 World Cup campaign in Mexico off to a losing note following their 6-0 defeat to Brazil on Sunday.

The Special Eagles, having missed the last three editions due to paucity of funds finally made their debut at the global event for this year.

According to BBC, Seven of the squad landed in the city of San Juan de Los from Lagos a few hours before the fixture.
