Brazil football legend Pele explains reason his country may not win the 2018 World Cup in Russia

Brazil’s football legend Pele has reportedly criticised the Selecao’s squad heading to Russia for the 2018 Fifa World Cup this month, according to reports.

Recuperating Neymar is finally back in action for the South American giants and a lot is expected from the PSG highly rated star when hostilities commence in Russia.

Already, the South American nation are considered top favourites to lift the trophy for the sixth time and bookmakers' are confident that Neymar will to be among the top goal scorers at the Mundial.

Sadly, the Selecao have not tasted victory at the global football showpiece 16 years ago and were battered 7-1 at their backyard at the last tournament by eventual winners’ Germany in the semis.

Although, Pele who claimed the world cup three times in his career is aware that the current Brazil squad is bubbling with enough quality players, but his greatest concern lies with the inability of the Selecao to gel and play as a team.

And though Pele, who helped his nation to three World Cups, knows Brazil have a lot of individual talent, he’s worried about the collective unit.

"I have the utmost confidence in Tite's ability," Pele said.

"My worry is about one thing; there are only a few days until the World Cup starts and we still don't have the right team.

“Individually all the players are very good. But we're not a team.

"Neymar is, to me, one of the best players in the world.

“Today he is more mature and he has more experience but he isn't going to win the World Cup on his own. It's teams that win the World Cup.

"The greatest Brazil team of all-time was the one in 1970, with Tostao, Rivellino, Gerson and Pele all wearing the No 10 shirts for their clubs.

“In the 1970 World Cup, we spent more than six months together. That's why it worked,” the legend was quoted as saying in a UK Express report.

The Selecao kick-start their 2018 Fifa World Cup campaign against Switzerland on June 17 and will also face Costa Rica and Serbia in their group games.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously had reported that Brazil international, Fred has reportedly reached an agreement to join Manchester United from Ukrainian topflight side FC Shakhtar Donetsk .
