Aston Villa Star hailed ‘fantastic’ by Unai Emery but remains dissatisfied
Aston Villa’s star between the sticks has been praised for his positive form after the last game in the Premier League but remains wary of the result.
Villa were heading to the weekend’s game with a sudden setback as their number one shot stopper, Emiliano Martinez, was unable to play due to feeling the pain. Unai Emery instantly called up the Argentine’s deputy, Marco Bizot, to get ready for the game which was only less than half an hour before the kickoff. Nonetheless, the Villa boss praised the Dutch goalkeeper’s form as reported by The Independent.
“He (Martinez) was feeling pain. And of course, the most important thing is how Marco responded to this circumstance. It’s really fantastic. If he were ready like he was before, Marco Bizot would be really fantastic. And of course, in this situation, it is ‘OK, change and another player’ and how he played today. Marco is really fantastic and ready because Marco Bizot is a fantastic goalkeeper, has fantastic experience, and is intelligent.”
Marco Bizot’s form
Getting a nod in the last minute to replace the first choice is not exactly new for Marco Bizot this season. He has been reliable in such moments several times.
The 35-year-old goalkeeper has just joined The Lions last summer as Martinez’s understudy. Yet, it did not take long for him to make his debut with Aston Villa. He already featured in the Premier League opener this season while Unai Emery’s men were held in a stalemate.
The former Stade Brestois man has been in fine form so far. He has made 13 appearances and made 6 clean sheets. The Dutchman has a 65.4 save percentage with 77.8 per cent successful passes and 37.6 per cent accurate long balls in total this season based on the stats in FotMob. In the game last night, Bizot made four saves and one clearance in City Ground. He also distributed long balls 11 times throughout the game.
His disappointment on Aston Villa result
Despite being touted as ‘fantastic’ by his boss, the former Netherlands international with only one international cap remains dissatisfied with the result. He shared his comments after the game with Sky Sports as reported by Birmingham Mail.
“We came here for a win, of course. We tried everything in our power to take a win, but unfortunately, we ended up with one point. It’s not enough. We tried to push through, but it was difficult. They had a few moments. We played well before the goal, and after our energy went down, they got the strength to push and score. We had the options to score a second goal, but it needed to go in. We should have taken three points today.”
His disappointment is probably justified, as Villa should have scored more goals in the second half. They took the lead from Murillo’s own goal in the 23rd minute before Neco Williams equalised not long after.
Morgan Rogers had several chances to put themselves in front, including one shot hitting the crossbar. Ollie Watkins also missed one golden chance as his strike flew over the goalframe, whereas John McGinn’s attempt was denied by Forest’s goalkeeper, Matz Sels.
The Clarets and Blue are still sitting on the fourth with 55 points following the draw result, but they are only three points ahead of Liverpool on the fifth after the Reds’ win over Fulham on Saturday. Unai Emery’s men are now switching their focus to the second leg of the Europa League in the midweek.
