Woking 5-1 Morecambe

Enterprise National League

Laithwaite Community Stadium

11th April 2026

Jermain Defoe seized his first Woking win in style, as the Cards ran out 5-1 victors to confirm Morecambe’s relegation to the National League North.

The early lead fell the way of the hosts, courtesy of Beautyman’s tenth of the season. The captain saw his first effort blocked, but made no mistake with his second attempt, which flew in on shotstopper Jamal Blackman’s left to break the deadlock in just the 12th minute.

Moments later, Pennant almost doubled Woking’s advantage, but his effort, struck back across goal, dragged wide.

Whilst the Cards continued to look the better side throughout much of the first half, the Shrimps had their chances, most notably with two corners in quick succession. The first, delivered in the 22nd minute, was met by the fingertips of Jaaskelainen, with the following corner seeing a header directed onto the crossbar.

Ward was the next to go close, with his shot taking a deflection in the 32nd-minute, with the effort from the resulting corner nestling on the roof of the net.

Woking continued in pursuit of a second, and it came from Drewe in the 37th minute, as his corner delivery looped directly into Morecambe’s net.

The Shrimps were able to halve the deficit before the break, however, as Nolan forced home a 41st-minute effort. It was then Sanderson who almost saw the Cards in at the half with a two-goal cushion, but he saw his injury-time effort blocked.

Half-Time: Woking 2-1 Morecambe.

Ward continued his influence in the early stages of the second 45, firstly with a 55th-minute volley struck over the bar, then with a break through on goal moments later, but he was halted by the offside flag.

With the wind in their favour, Morecambe had their moments going forward, most notably in the 67th minute, with Jaaskelainen doing well to deny the equaliser. Moments later, a corner ball almost saw that leveller, with the effort striking the underside of the crossbar, but falling the wrong side of the line for the Shrimps.

Sanderson restored the Card’s two-goal advantage in the 77th minute as he picked up the ball in midfield, rounded the recovering defender, and slotted home from the edge of the box in his first of the afternoon.

Substitute Ashford made it four on 90 minutes, as he slotted his edge-of-the-area effort into the far bottom corner, ensuring he netted in both the home and away fixture against the Shrimps.

Sanderson’s second came just minutes later, as he signed off a strong showing by lifting the ball over Blackman in the third minute of injury time, leaving Morecambe well-beaten.
