Tottenham fighting Aston Villa and Newcastle for £30m Leeds star who seems open to a move
Tottenham Hotspur are one of three clubs attempting to swoop for a veteran Premier League defender who has already signalled his transfer intentions.
With Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven continuing to be heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham, Roberto De Zerbi may be forced to make major reinforcements to the club’s backline ahead of his first full season at N17.
Spurs fans will be hoping that Luka Vuskovic is ready to make the step up, but the jury remains out on how quickly the Croat would adapt to Premier League football.
That may be why the Lilywhites are now stepping up their pursuit of a Dutch defender, who has proven his chops in the English top-flight.
Tottenham battling two Premier League clubs for Pascal Struijk
According to reports, Leeds defender Pascal Struijk has emerged as a target for Tottenham ahead of the summer, as the Lilywhites look to add some experience to their backline.
A new report in Football Insider has now confirmed that Spurs are eyeing a move for the Leeds man, but it is revealed that two other Premier League clubs are also circling over the defender.
Tottenham have been joined in the race for the defender’s signature by Aston Villa and Newcastle United, who have also identified Struijk as a potential option to bolster their backline.
However, the outlet adds that Leeds are prepared to do ‘everything in their power’ to keep the centre-back and are confident of doing so if they stay in the Premier League.
If Daniel Farke’s side do get relegated, they may be ‘susceptible to offers’ for the former Ajax man.
What Struijk has said about the possibility of a transfer
The defender will enter the final year of his contract this June, and some sources have suggested that Leeds would be ready to sell the Spurs target for £30m this summer.
The 26-year-old was linked with a move away from Elland Road in the winter, and he admitted at the time that he wanted out of the club.
Struijk told ESPN NL back in January: “I had some options to leave, but that didn’t happen. That had to do with multiple parties. From my side, there was something I really wanted to do.
“But the three parties: me, the club, and the other club, would all ultimately have to come to an agreement. If that doesn’t happen, then I simply have a contract and I do my job.”
