Hibs Women 0 Partick Thistle 0

A frustrating afternoon in the capital meant Hibernian Women and Partick Thistle shared the points at Meadowbank Stadium.

The Hibees had a number of chances throughout - including a second-half penalty-kick, which was fired wide - without capitalising whilst restraining the Jags to very limited glimpses at goal throughout.

Only one change was made to Joelle Murray’s starting XI, with Faye Bryson making her Hibernian debut and replacing Stacey Papadopoulos.

The Hibees had the first opportunity of the game on six minutes as Rosie Livingstone attempted to drive a low shot into the bottom-right corner, but this was saved well by Thistle keeper Jennifer Currie.

Another early chance saw Kathleen McGovern fire wide inside 12 minutes, before Siobhan Hunter was called into action up the other end to cut out a threatening cross towards Lia Tweedie.

After a quiet opening 30 minutes, Hibernian were awarded a free-kick which Ciara Grant lined up to take, her cross connected with McGovern but the ball flew wide.

As the second half kicked off, the Hibees came out determined to break the deadlock at Meadowbank but were consistently frustrated by both the resilient Thistle defence and spurned chances.

On 47 minutes, Livingstone ran down wing and crossed to Eilidh Adams, who brought McGovern into the action with a neat lay-off - with the forward volleying over the bar.

In the 53rd minute an opportunity presented itself as the Hibees were awarded a penalty for handball.

McGovern stepped up to take the penalty, but was unable to find the back of the net as she sent her effort wide of the post.

A couple of minutes later, Livingstone took on a shot from close range but her powerful strike landed in Currie’s gloves.

With 73 minutes played, a strong cross from the right connected with McGovern, but the strike bounced back out off the bar.

Another agonisingly close chance for the Hibees occurred moments later, as Adams' bypassed Partick’s defence before taking a right-footed shot that narrowly fizzed wide.

Second-half substitute Papadopoulos crossed to Livingstone who was waiting at the backpost, where she attempted to hammer the ball into the net, but Currie caught the shot.

A gilt-edged chance presented itself in the closing minutes of the match from a Jess Fitzgerald free-kick. The ball connected with Siobhan Hunter, with her strike forcing a fumble from Currie, but our rebounded effort which struck the back of the net was ruled offside.

As the game drew to a close, Hunter took the final chance of the game in stoppage time, as she lined up to take a free-kick but her low, driven effort went wide, bringing the game to a disappointing close.
