Transfer blow: Man United face fresh setback in pursuit of 19yo explosive star

0 13

Manchester United are interested in signing a new winger this summer.

The Red Devils have been strongly linked with a move for Yan Diomande, one of the most exciting young talents emerging from RB Leipzig.

However, a fresh update from Germany could derail United’s attempt to recruit the teenager.

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, RB Leipzig are planning to reward Diomande with a new deal and a performance-based pay rise.

The Bundesliga club are also against adding a release clause as they believe that market demand could help them get offers above €100 million.

Diomande has enjoyed a stellar 2025-26 season with RB Leipzig, netting 11 goals and eight assists in 29 games across all competitions.

He is an explosive winger who looks most comfortable on the right flank.

Apart from United, Liverpool are also heavily linked with the 19-year-old.

Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo are the only senior wingers in the squad.

The departures of Alejandro Garnacho and Antony in 2025 have left a noticeable void in wide areas. Marcus Rashford is also expected to seal a permanent transfer this summer.

The Red Devils are in urgent need of a direct, fearless winger capable of taking on full-backs and stretching defences.

Should Diomande commit his future to Leipzig, United may be forced to pivot swiftly towards alternative targets.

Anthony Gordon, Iliman Ndiaye and Crysencio Summerville are other alternatives.

Given their priority to rebuild the midfield, it is highly unlikely that United will spend €100m on a winger.
