‘I am convinced’ – Lothar Matthaus urges Tottenham to move for Sebastian Kehl
German icon Lothar Matthaus has made an interesting statement regarding Sebastian Kehl, amidst reports that Tottenham are considering appointing the 46-year-old as their sporting director.
Fabio Paratici departed Spurs at the start of last month to take over as Fiorentina’s head of football, leaving Johan Lange as the North London club’s only sporting director.
Reports have indicated that Tottenham have begun work to replace Paratici ahead of the summer, so that the new director can have an input on the club’s next permanent manager.
Chelsea’s Paul Winstanley and Al-Diriyah’s director Dougie Freedman are both being considered by Spurs, but it is a German who has now emerged as a leading contender.
Lothar Matthaus reacts to Sebastian Kehl to Tottenham speculation
A couple of days ago, The Telegraph reported that Sebastian Kehl is being considered by Tottenham, who are entering the final stages of their hunt for a new director.
Kehl served as Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director for five years before parting ways with the German club earlier this week, and Matthaus believes that the 46-year-old would be an asset for any club.
The Bayern legend said on the Sky90 podcast about Kehl: “He is a very honest guy, a very likeable guy. I am convinced, whoever gets Sebastian Kehl is making a very good transfer.”
Spurs have a more pressing decision to make right now
While Tottenham would be keen to bring the right director in, the club are facing an even bigger decision over the coming days.
Some reports indicate that Igor Tudor could part ways with Spurs during the international break, after overseeing four losses and a draw in his five Premier League games in charge.
Tottenham are thought to be holding talks with managerial candidates, as the club strive to make the right appointment, with their top-flight status on the line.
