Weekend preview: Away double - including crucial Whitchurch visit
Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Men's and Women's First Team sides both hit the road this weekend for a pair of tough away tests. And for the Women's First Team Sunday's trip to Whitchurch is a clash against fellow South West Regional Women's Football League Division One North title challengers (2pm kick off). Holding a two point lead over their hosts, Bassett will be looking to extend that advantage with a game in hand still to play over their opponents. James Lally's side were 5-0 winners against Whitchurch when the teams met in Wiltshire in November. But visiting Whitchurch will be a different prospect with Sunday's hosts having won five and lost just one of their six home league fixtures so far this season. Prior to that on Saturday the Men's First Team travel to Hellenic League Premier Division title hopefuls Roman Glass St George as their tough run of March fixtures comes to an end (3pm kick off). Back in November Roman Glass were 4-2 winners in a game in which Bassett were competitive. Jonny Aitkenhead's side have performed well in losses against three other promotion contenders this month but have come away empty handed from those games. The Bassett boss will therefore be hoping his side can finish March with something to show for their efforts. While both those games are away there is still action at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground with a pair of County Cup finals. On Saturday Melksham Town Development face Tisbury United in the Wiltshire Junior Cup final (2pm kick off). Then on Sunday Tidworth Town and Pinehurst square off in the Sunday Cup final (10.30am). Best of luck to all four teams - it is an honour to host the finals along with Royal Wootton Bassett Sports Association, and we look forward to a pair of entertaining games. - Royal Wootton Bassett Town Men's and Women's First Team sides are proudly sponsored by Imagine Cruising.
