Tottenham and Man United stuck in Joao Gomes tug of war with three Premier League rivals
Tottenham Hotspur want to raid an ailing Premier League club for their star midfielder in the summer, but Spurs have now received bad news.
Spurs cannot start finalising their transfer targets for the summer unless they secure their Premier League status, which they are a long way away from doing.

However, based on the speculation over recent weeks, it appears that Tottenham have already started identifying a shortlist of possible targets to reinforce their squad for the summer.
It was widely reported ahead of the January window that Spurs considered making an offer for a Wolves star, and it appears that the North London club’s interest in the player has not gone away.
Tottenham have to battle four Premier League clubs for Joao Gomes
The player we are referring to is Joao Gomes, who has been on Tottenham’s radar for several years, amidst his consistent displays at the Molineux Stadium.
A new report in TEAMtalk has now confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur have ‘made enquiries’ about Gomes and are continuing to ‘track his development’ ahead of the summer.
However, it is revealed that Chelsea and Manchester City have also enquired about the 25-year-old, and two other giants have now entered the race for his signature.
Those are Man United and Liverpool, who are now ‘stepping up their interest’ in Gomes, with both clubs keen on bolstering their midfield and identifying the Brazilian as a ‘major transfer target’.
Gomes has already revealed his dream destination
The report claims that there is an acceptance at Wolves that the midfielder is likely to depart this summer when the club get relegated from the Premier League.
For the moment, Gomes is focused on securing his place in the Brazilian national team for the World Cup, but he is expected to be on the move in the summer if the right offer arrives.
However, TEAMtalk also point out that back in 2022, the Wolves man had already made it clear that Anfield would be his dream destination, thus giving the Reds a possible advantage in the transfer race.
Gomes is quoted as saying at the time by the outlet: “Liverpool is a team I would play for. I have a great desire to play there.”
