Tottenham coach Bruno Saltor admits something that Igor Tudor has been reluctant to
Igor Tudor’s assistant, Bruno Saltor, has now admitted something that the journalists have been trying to get Igor Tudor to say since he walked into Tottenham.
While West Ham are still considered favourites to go down over Tottenham by Opta, Spurs fans are now starting to lose faith that their club will get out of this situation.
A 3-0 demolition at home by their direct relegation rivals, Nottingham Forest, showed the level that Tottenham are at right now and why they are yet to win a single Premier League game this year.
A senior member of the Spurs coaching staff has now finally conceded the obvious after the Lilywhites’ bruising defeat against the Midlands side.
Bruno Saltor admits Tottenham are in a relegation battle
In his first press conference as Tottenham head coach, Igor Tudor confidently asserted that Spurs will stay up this season, and that prediction is certainly not looking like a good one at the moment.
When pushed on the topic subsequently, Tudor has been hesitant to even discuss the possibility of relegation, insisting that he is focused on each game as it comes rather than the end result.
However, his number two, Bruno Saltor, who had to do the media duties after the game on Sunday due to Tudor’s family bereavement, has now finally used the ‘R’ word and conceded that Spurs are in a battle for survival.
Saltor said (via BBC Sport): “We are in a relegation battle. Everyone knows. We are conscious of it. The players, they know. The most important thing is to be together. The fans showed they were next to us. From the start to the finish, they were outstanding.
“We felt the support. For us, we need to be stay connected. We need to get even closer when there are problems like a family. That’s the message. Still 21 points to play for. We have shown we can compete against any team. We need to keep improving and getting better to get those points.”
Saltor insists ‘small details are going against’ Spurs
The Tottenham assistant coach conceded that the 3-0 loss to Forest was a difficult pill to swallow, insisting that the small margins are going against the Lilywhites.
He revealed that the squad is hurting after the big loss, but stressed the need for the players to be mentally strong and focus on what is ahead.
Saltor added: “If we focus on the result today, it’s a tough one to take. It’s a really difficult one. If you focus on the last two games and the performance in the first half today, we were much better. But small details are going against us right now.
“The key is how we can be consistent with our performances throughout the 90 minutes. The players care and they get affected. We need to be stronger than that. We need to be focused on what we want to do. We need to keep improving and getting better.”
