NatTandyYep. Not quite the elite league that everyone bangs on about is it.
I think the PL as a whole is the strongest in the world, and it’s not even close.
The top English teams aren’t as strong as many other top European clubs however.
Assuming Liverpool get past Galatasaray as they theoretically should, England will have only one less quarter finalist than Spain. The reason why it is noticeable that multiple English teams are going out this round is that we had so many in this round to begin with. Six is a ridiculous number.
The overall strength of the Premier League is arguably one of the things that holds back our elite clubs at the highest level. Near enough every Premier League club is incrediblly wealthy in comparison to the rest of Europe, so talent in the Premier League is spread through the league rather than being largely hoarded by a handful of clubs at the top of the league a la the big three in Spain or with PSG alone in France.
If you want to see a league really on its arse, look at Serie A.
Agree Nat.
There’s some seriously high quality players across a lot of the teams. It’s not that the league is average, it’s that it’s more competitive.
