Carrick blown away by Man Utd star who 'made the difference' vs Aston Villa

0 11

Manchester United recorded a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.

Bruno Fernandes once again ran the show at Old Trafford, providing assists for the first two goals of the afternoon.

United head coach Michael Carrick was quick to shower praise on his captain after the final whistle.

He said (via BBC Sport): “We’re delighted to have him. He’s proven over a period of time how impactful he is in the big moments. He’s there all the time, he puts himself forward in training and games.

“You can always count on him to be there. It’s a really good trait to have. He’s been through ups and downs here but it’s never knocked him. He was there today to make the difference.”

Bruno Fernandes is shattering records

Fernandes had already been responsible for delivering 23 points to United through his goals and assists before this fixture. With two sublime assists against Villa, that remarkable tally rose to 26.

The Portuguese playmaker now boasts 16 assists in the league this season. Rayan Cherki sits second on the list with just eight assists.

This shows that Fernandes is operating at the highest level, with no player even coming too close to him.

His first assist came from a pinpoint corner delivery that was headed home by Casemiro. Remarkably, it was the fifth time Fernandes has set up a goal for the Brazilian midfielder.

When Villa equalised through Ross Barkley, Carrick needed someone to step up and Fernandes answered the call.

The midfielder drifted intelligently towards the left flank before producing a sensational through ball for Matheus Cunha.

The weight and precision of the pass were exquisite, completely taking Ezri Konsa out of the defensive equation.

By registering two assists in the match, the 31-year-old surpassed David Beckham’s record for the most assists in a single league season for United.

No player in Premier League history has ever recorded more than 20 assists in a single campaign. With eight league games still remaining, Fernandes now has a genuine opportunity to rewrite the history books.
