Teddy Sheringham fires clear Igor Tudor sack warning to the Tottenham board
Tottenham legend Teddy Sheringham has warned the club’s hierarchy about what needs to be done to ensure the club stays in the Premier League.
There was hope that Igor Tudor might be the right man to turn Tottenham’s season around, but just three weeks into his time in N17, his position is already being scrutinised.
It has been widely reported that Spurs are considering their options regarding Tudor’s future, with the reaction of the supporters during the loss to Crystal Palace sending alarm bells ringing at the club.
As the Lilywhites prepare to resume their Champions League campaign, an ex-Spurs striker has now called on the club to take a drastic decision.
Teddy Sheringham says Igor Tudor will take Tottenham down
Reports indicate that Tudor is expected to remain in charge for the timebeing, but Sheringham has warned the club that they need to act fast to remove the Croat.
The pundit accused the interim Spurs boss of learning on the job and questioned his tactical set-up in his first three matches in charge of the club.
When asked if Tottenham will go down this season, Sheringham told talkSPORT: “If they keep this manager in charge, then yes. I’ve got to be honest, and when I heard the appointment first of all, it was like who, what, where have they pulled him from? So, I don’t know who’s uh pulled the trigger on that one, but for me, he’s learning on the job. I said that he doesn’t know enough about the Premier League. He doesn’t know enough about his players at Tottenham. He doesn’t know where to play him.
“You only have to look at the players that you look at the back five that he played last night, every one of them was slightly out of position. And if you’ve played football, you understand what I’m talking about. If someone asks you to be 20 yards different on a football pitch, it’s uncanny to you; it doesn’t feel right.
“You’ve got Danso playing as a sweeper. You got Porro playing as a right centre half. You’ve got Van de Ven playing as a left centre half. That none of them are in the right position. You got Souza playing, making his home debut, and he’s playing as a wing-back rather than a fullback. You know, last week, Gallagher was playing out on the right wing. It’s all wrong for me.”
Calls for Spurs to sack Tudor are growing louder
Sheringham is by no means the only former Spurs star to call for the Croat’s head after three losses in a row.
A couple of days ago, Jamie O’Hara has called on Tottenham to sack Tudor in the upcoming international break, suggesting that performances have got worse since he arrived.
Meanwhile, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has said that he would not be surprised if Spurs sack Tudor in a desperate attempt to preserve their Premier League status.
