International Round-Up: McGovern On Target For Scotland!
Seven Hibees represented their respective countries across the international break – read below to find out how they got on!
Kathleen McGovern and Stacey Papadopoulos made winning starts to their respective 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign, while five more First Team stars represented Scotland across youth level.
Kathleen McGovern – Scotland
It was a strong start to the World Cup qualifiers for Kathleen McGovern and Scotland – with the striker scoring three times in two matches as Scotland picked up all six available points across the break.
Melissa Andreatta’s side faced off against Luxembourg home and away across the break in Group B4, with dominant wins pushing the Scots to first-place ahead of Belgium in the standings.
McGovern appeared off the bench in Esch-sur-Alzette to fire in Scotland’s final goal in a 5-0 rout – via a smart touch-and-finish effort – on 88 minutes.
In the reverse fixture at Hampden Park, the striker was named in the starting XI and made an electric start by finding the opener with a smart low strike within 35 seconds!
McGovern secured her brace on 31 minutes with the simplest of finishes after tapping home into an empty net – raising her ‘A’ Squad record to five goals in six caps.
Stacey Papadopoulos – Greece
Full-back Stacey Papadopoulos started in both of Greece’s 2027 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches during the break – helping Ethniki to two important clean sheet victories!
A convincing 3-0 win over Georgia was promptly followed up by a solid 2-0 showing against the Faroe Islands, with Papadopoulos playing the full 90 minutes in both games.
The crucial 100% start sends Greece to top spot in Group C4, which almost certainly assures them of progression to the Play-Off Round as well as promotion to UEFA Women’s National League B. A single point from the two reverse fixtures would confirm their group-winner status.
Hannah Jordan, Eilidh Adams, Tegan Bowie and Rosie Livingstone – Scotland U23s
Hibs were the joint-most represented club in the Scotland U23s squad across the international window as they hosted the Netherlands in an international friendly match in Inverness.
Eilidh Adams, Tegan Bowie and Rosie Livingstone all received successive call-ups following recent impressive showings for Michael McArdle’s squad, while Hannah Jordan received her first call-up since April 2025.
Adams, Bowie and Livingstone all played 80-plus minutes while Jordan appeared as a second-half substitute as the Scots, despite a positive first-half showing, fell to a 4-0 defeat.
Rowena Armitage – Scotland U19s
Rowena Armitage was selected by Gary Doctor as part of his 20-strong squad to face Belgium in an international friendly double-header against Belgium in Tubize.
The young keeper was an unused substitute in the first meeting, as Scotland fought to secure a 1-1 draw.
Starting in the second clash, Armitage put in a strong performance as the Young Team secured an excellent 2-1 victory over the Red Flames – with Rowena beaten only by a penalty-kick.
The solid preparation allows Armitage and Scotland U19s to now look ahead to the upcoming UEFA European U19 Championship Round Two qualifiers.
