Igor Tudor blasts referee for allowing Fulham striker to ‘cheat’ against Tottenham
Tottenham’s Igor Tudor has not minced his words when asked what he thought of the referee’s decision to allow Fulham’s opening goal to stand.
Tottenham once again failed to pose much of a threat in the final third, with Fulham emerging deserved 2-1 winners at Craven Cottage.
The away side found themselves behind just seven minutes into the encounter, courtesy of a goal from Harry Wilson.
However, the Tottenham players were calling for a foul on Radu Dragusin, who appeared to be pushed by Fulham’s Raul Jimenez, but referee Thomas Bramall did not see it that way, while VAR did not intervene.
Tottenham boss Igor Tudor questions the lack of consistency in officiating
Tudor felt that it was an obvious foul on Dragusin and also pointed out that his side was on the receiving end of a similar foul against Arsenal, where Randal Kolo Muani’s second goal was ruled out for a push on Gabriel Magalhaes.
The Spurs interim head coach bemoaned the lack of consistency, describing the decision as ‘incredible’.
When asked if it looked like a foul by Jimenez, in the lead-up to Fulham’s opener, Igor Tudor told Football.London: “Of course it’s a foul, I think. Nine out of 10 people will say it’s a foul, I believe, because it’s so obvious, you know.
“Sometimes the criteria don’t have consistency, last week what happened in our game against Arsenal, same thing, also one situation before, we conceded a goal, they didn’t get a foul after they give, so, incredible.”
Tudor claims Jimenez tried to cheat
The 47-year-old went on to explain that while he can understand the referee not giving those decisions near the halfway line, he questioned the logic of not blowing the whistle in the final third.
The Spurs interim boss suggested that Jimenez was not trying to go in for a duel with Dragusin and instead tried to ‘cheat’.
When asked if the referee explained to him why the goal had been given, Tudor responded: “No, no, no, no, I was too nervous to speak with him, because it’s so obvious, you know.
“Sometimes they don’t understand it’s enough, even small contact, you know, if it gives you advantage to score the goal, you need to cancel this, finish it. It’s not about normal duel when he’s soft, no, when he pushes with the hands and don’t watch the ball, no. Sometimes it’s just easy to get advantage.
“This is ridiculous to not give the foul, because the consequence is too big. It’s not a small foul in the middle of the pitch, it’s a goal after. So, there is a logic in that, so the referee, beautiful thing to keep playing here, let’s play strong, duel, it’s fantastic, I like it.
“But there is a logic, if the goal is, because he take advantage, not thinking about football, he was not thinking about the ball, he was thinking how to cheat. So, he cheated the player with pushing and they scored the goal. So, it’s a logic, it’s a cheating and there’s the foul.
“It’s not the thing of duel and they want that here is a football is more, you know, tough and we like the duels, it’s nothing with that. So, there was no logic in this decision and logic is above everything, after come other things.”
