Manchester United had to dig deep to salvage a point at the London Stadium, grinding out a hard-fought 1-1 draw against West Ham United in the Premier League.

Caretaker manager Michael Carrick named an unchanged XI but his players looked tired after the 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur last Saturday.

Both sides cancelled each other out for long spells, with disciplined defensive shapes ensuring clear-cut chances were at a premium before the interval.

Tomas Soucek put the Hammers ahead with a delicate finish after a poor piece of defending from the visitors.

Carrick rolled the dice with his substitutions, yet United initially struggled for inspiration as West Ham continued to frustrate them in the final third.

That late push paid off when Benjamin Sesko climbed off the bench to fire home a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser, extending Carrick’s unbeaten run and rescuing a crucial point.

His shot was cleared off the line by Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Lost a key duel in the build-up to West Ham’s goal.

Casemiro – 6/10

Scored with another header but his strike was rightly ruled offside by VAR. He was heavily in the attack but was unlucky with the final shot a couple of times.

Kobbie Mainoo – 5/10

Should have shown more commitment to track back for the goal.

Bruno Fernandes – 5/10

A rare quiet evening for the best player in the Premier League this campaign.

Amad Diallo – 4/10

Failed to create half-chances and seems impossible for him to deliver a good cross even when he is in a threatening position. He must improve his decision making.

Bryan Mbeumo – 6/10

Just like Fernandes, Mbeumo struggled to break down a stubborn West Ham defence before Sesko made the most of his poor cross.

Matheus Cunha – 4/10

Started in the number nine spot but made no impact today.

Substitutions

Benjamin Sesko – 8/10

Tested goalkeeper with a straightforward shot before netting the equaliser in the 96th minute via a clever finish. He should have started.

Leny Yoro – 8/10

Brilliant defending to keep the score at 1-0 late in injury time.

Joshua Zirkzee – 6/10

He was inches away from getting United back into the game.
