Patriots Super Bowl Hero Had Hilarious Response To Tom Brady Controversy
New England Patriots legend Tom Brady inadvertently caused a ton of drama last week with his comments leading up to Super Bowl LX. On his “Let’s Go” podcast, Brady said he didn’t have a dog in the fight between the Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, appearing to diss his old team.
Needless to say, Brady’s fence-sitting was not well-received in New England. Fans, media members and former Patriots blasted the seven-time Super Bowl champ for his lack of loyalty and support.
That included former Pro Bowl cornerback Malcolm Butler, who won a pair of titles with Brady in New England.
In an interview during the Patriots’ Super Bowl welcome party, Butler revealed which team he was rooting for with a hilarious spin on Brady’s comments.
“I don’t own pets. I don’t own pets. I’m New England ‘til the day I die. Don’t let that go over your head now,” Butler said.
Butler, of course, was responsible for one of the most famous plays in Super Bowl history, intercepting Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson at the goal line at the end of Super Bowl XLIX to seal the win for New England.
Butler won another Super Bowl with the Patriots two years later but was mysteriously benched by Bill Belichick during their Super Bowl LII loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. New England’s defense was shredded by Nick Foles without him, wasting a historic Brady performance in the process.
Butler left in free agency that offseason, signing with the Tennessee Titans. Despite his Patriots tenure ending on a bad note, it’s good to see that he still cares about and roots for them.
