‘Rangers Won’t Define Our Season’ says Sean Crighton

QUEEN’S PARK head coach Sean Crighton cannot question his team’s commitment and work-rate in the wake of Sunday’s 8-0 defeat to Rangers which saw The Spiders exit the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup.

A hat-trick from James Tavernier, two from Ryan Naderi plus goals from Bojan Miovski, Tochi Chukwuani and a Matty Shiels own goal inflicted the heavy defeat in the the Glasgow derby.

The honest head coach admitted: “We were not good enough, we didn’t do the basics well and there has been a couple of times this season I’ve had to question that.

“But I’ve not got any question that this group are not committed and that they’re not putting enough work in because they absolutely do, and for most of the season they have.”

The Spiders boss felt that this game an added extra to the season, having been restored to the competition following a notice of complaint raised by the Scottish FA against previous round winners Stranraer.

Crighton made it clear that both he and the team will now turn their focus straight back to their William Hill Championship campaign.

He added: “I did say to the group, this won’t define our season. Our season is about the Championship, but I did want us to come and enjoy this experience. I don’t think we did that.

“From my point of view, we need to make sure that we dust ourselves down, we can’t feel sorry for ourselves. We’ve now got a massive game coming up on Saturday against Ross County.”
