Carrick believes one Man Utd star will have 'big moments' before end of the season

0 1

Manchester United delivered an emotionally charged 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League today.

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero was sent off around the half-hour mark after a poor challenge on Casemiro.

United made the most of that numerical advantage with Bryan Mbeumo firing his side ahead.

Just like always, Bruno Fernandes had a decisive say in the game as he doubled United’s lead with a superb goal in the 81st minute.

Caretaker head coach Michael Carrick lavished praise on the club skipper after the game.

He said (via ManUtd.com): “I think Bruno, his level of performances over quite a long period of time now have been so consistent.

“He just cares so much, you can see that, he cares so much about the club and wanting the club to do well, the team to do well.”

Carrick has reinstated Fernandes in his favoured number 10 position since taking over the reins.

The Portuguese maestro plays as a second striker when United are out of possession to keep the 4-4-2 shape.

Late substitutions were made to freshen up things, with Joshua Zirkzee and Benjamin Sesko operating as the two central attackers.

Fernandes switched to the left wing but he was still able to make a direct contribution.

Carrick further praised Fernandes’ versatility and commitment to the club.

He added: “He can play so much different positions, he ended up playing off the left and got his goal in the end from playing off the left.

“He’s just got the quality in the big moments, that composure and can make the difference for us. It’s nothing new, hopefully it continues, I’m sure he’ll have big moments between now and the end of the season.”

The 31-year-old pulled the strings in the attack with ease.

He played six key passes and also created one big chance.

He should have added another assist to his tally but Benjamin Sesko failed to beat the Spurs goalkeeper in the stoppage time.

Fernandes put his name on the scoresheet with a really neat finish into the bottom right corner.

It was an inch-perfect cross from Diogo Dalot but the finish from Fernandes was exceptional.

This goal marked his 200th goal contribution for United in the Premier League era.

He is also the second-fastest to reach this memorable milestone, only behind the legendary Wayne Rooney.
