Sports Briefs: MC girls head into soccer playoffs on roll, will face Tam

Senior Sienna White scored a pair of goals and assisted on two others as Marin Catholic shut out Novato, 9-0, in Thursday’s girls soccer regular-season finale. Caroline McMillan and Nora Snearly added two goals each, while Lana Whilborg and Brooklyn Blackman both had a goal and an assist. Claire Hunnewell also scored a goal.

  • Archie Williams High earned a 2-1 victory over Tam on Thursday to secure the fifth seed in the MCAL playoffs. The Peregrine Falcons (3-4-1) will face No. 4 Marin Catholic (3-2-3) in Tuesday’s opening round, while No. 6 Tam (3-4-1) will face No. 3 San Rafael (2-1-4). Lily-Rose Espinasse scored for the Red-tailed Hawks on a pass from Lauren Willard.
  • The Branson School posted a 3-0 shutout of Terra Linda. Luna Diaz opened the scoring with an assist from Anya Sridharan. Ava Grevelding followed with a late goal, then assisted on Sandra Sebastiani’s score 2 minutes later. The top-seeded Bulls (7-0-1) have a first-round bye, while the Trojans finish the regular season 1-4-3.
  • Reese Goodenough scored twice, with one assist coming from Sadie Goodenough, as Marin Academy (11-2-2, 6-0-2 BCL) rolled to a 6-0 victory over Lick-Wilmerding on Thursday. Lily Weaver added a pair of goals for the Wildcats. Reese Hanna scored off a corner from Tatum Colpitts, and Sky Sacerdoti drove home a cross from Blythe DeGooyer.
  • San Domenico fell 2-1 to Convent as Vicky Tennyson scored the Panthers’ lone goal. Frieda Fengler, Isabel Saldivar and Abby Silver helped keep the game close for San Domenico (5-7, 0-6 BCL).

Girls basketball

The Branson School posted a 55-21 victory over San Rafael in Thursday’s regular-season finale to lock up the fourth seed for the MCAL playoffs. The Bulls (14-11, 5-3) will face No. 5 Archie Williams High in Monday’s first round. Alyssa Huang led the Bulls with16 points, while Kate Spaulding had 14.

  • Archie Williams High fell 58-39, to San Marin on Thursday. Reese Patton led the Peregrine Falcons with 11 points, while freshman Valentina Dong had eight points and senior Delphina Dong had seven points. The full game story will appear in Saturday’s Marin IJ.
  • Marin Catholic rolled to a 61-24 victory over Terra Linda on Thursday to gain a little momentum heading into the postseason. The Wildcats (9-13, 6-2), as the third seed, will host No. 6 Novato in the first round of the MCAL playoffs.
  • Redwood High capped an undefeated run through the MCAL with Thursday’s 63-23 victory over Novato. Phoebe Saibel scored a team-high 12 points for the Giants, who got 10 points from Brooke Denler. The Giants (20-5, 8-0) have the top seed and a first-round bye for the MCAL playoffs. Biana Toussant, Kira Martinez and Savannah Sparks each had six points for the Hornets (8-15, 3-5).

Boys basketball

Olen Johnson scored 16 points to lead Redwood High to a 83-49 victory over Novato on Thursday. Ramon Garcia added 14 points for the Giants (11-12, 6-2 MCAL), who have the third seed in the MCAL playoffs.

Women’s basketball

College of Marin’s Jaidyn Brown scored a game-high 27 points, but the Mariners fell 69-64 to a hard-charging Los Medanos team on Wednesday night in Kentfield. Jamaia Harrison added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Mariners (12-11, 4-5 BVC), who face Merritt on Friday.

Men’s lacrosse

Dominican University opened the season at home on Thursday with a 21-6 loss against Westminster of Utah. Will Elfline and Tanner Ennis scored two goals each for the Penguins, who opened a two-goal lead over the Griffins before falling behind 5-4 at halftime. Hunter Smith and Cole Soper also scored for the Penguins.
