Matlock Town complete the signing of Alfie Atherton from Sheffield United
Nineteen-year-old Atherton, a highly-rated and much-coveted youngster, enjoyed a loan spell at The Proctor Cars Stadium earlier this season, where he made an immediate impact. The forward memorably announced himself by scoring a stunning wonder goal on his debut.
Following that impressive loan period, Matlock have now secured Atherton’s services on a permanent basis, representing a significant coup for the Gladiators and underlining the club’s ambition and commitment to building an exciting, competitive squad.
Matlock Town manager Adam Clayton said:
“I am absolutely delighted to get Alfie in on a permanent deal , he’s an exciting young player with lots of potential and the ability to have a big impact for us right now and further down the line. As soon as Alfie’s loan ended we started working on bringing him back on a permanent deal. His hunger and desire to succeed matches the ambition of the football club and I am delighted to welcome him back into the group.
He is a player who can operate in a number of different positions and gives us more versatility moving forward. His attitude and work ethic in the month he was with us was first class and I look forward to working with him again.”
