Weekend preview: Bassett set for away double
Both Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Men's and Women's First Team sides face important away league fixtures this weekend. On Sunday Bassett return to South West Regional Women's Football League Division One North on the road at fellow title hopefuls Bitton (2pm kick off). The first of back-to-back fixtures against rivals in the title mix, Bassett's visit to Bitton will see their still unbeaten record come under severe threat. Bassett did beat Bitton 3-1 when the teams met in Wiltshire at the start of November. But that is Bitton's only league loss of the season so far - and they have since taken 13 points from their last five fixtures. Prior to that on Saturday Bassett visit Cinderford Town in the Hellenic League Premier Division (3pm kick off). Jonny Aitkenhead's side are making their second visit to the Causeway Ground this season after falling to defeat on penalties following a thrilling 3-3 FA Vase draw in August. That result meant Bassett are unbeaten inside 90 minutes in their last three visits to face the Foresters. And Bassett will be hoping to record a positive result against opponents who they are looking to close the gap to. Meanwhile the Development team are in home Wiltshire League Premier Division action against Down Ampney on Saturday (Gerard Buxton Sports Ground, 2pm kick off). Saturday's visitors are fighting for survival, with Mark Simpkins' team therefore looking to avoid an upset and seal a season double over their opponents. Admission is £4 for adults, £2 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members. - Royal Wootton Bassett Town Men's and Women's First Team are proudly sponsored by Imagine Cruising.
