Five things we learned from Tottenham’s 2-2 draw with Burnley as fans beg for Thomas Frank sack

0 2

Thomas Frank failed to build on Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund this evening as Burnley held them to a 2-2 draw, leaving them winless in the league in 2026.

Let’s take a look at five things we learned from Burnley 2-2 Tottenham:

Thomas Frank has surely managed his last Tottenham game

Tottenham could not make it two wins in two this evening, and that pretty much sums up their season under Thomas Frank.

The Dane managed to ease some pressure with the win over Borussia Dortmund, but the failure to win once more this evening has only compounded it.

The Premier League is very competitive, making it crucial for Spurs to rack up points against sides like the Clarets, who are in the relegation zone.

Failure to do so led to even more chants aimed at the Dane, with fans singing ‘we want Frank out’ and ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’ once again.

It does look like he is out of his depth, and it is definitely time for him to go as results continue to falter.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven remain Spurs’ biggest goal threats but defensive flaws persist

Spurs do have their defenders to thank for most of their positive moments this term, as Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have been on hand to bail them out on several occasions.

That was the case once more this evening as both centre-backs found the back of the net, with van de Ven handing Tottenham the lead and Romero’s thumping header earning Frank’s men a point.

That goal took van de Ven’s tally for Tottenham to double figures, while Romero’s strike was his third in consecutive matches, remarkable numbers for centre-halves.

However, while they remain a threat in the opposition box, their defending can often leave supporters scratching their heads, and that was again evident against Burnley.

Pedro Porro should have been far more alert for Burnley’s opener, while for the second, Romero was pulled out of position and van de Ven went to ground too quickly, falling for a fake shot.

With them at the back, it increasingly feels as though Tottenham need to score multiple times to win matches, with the forwards needing to contribute far more.

Mathys Tel frustration grows as Thomas Frank looks elsewhere again

Mathys Tel has endured a difficult spell at Spurs since his permanent move in the summer, with game time proving one of his biggest struggles.

Despite the ongoing injury crisis, opportunities have not materialised, with the forward barely featuring in Europe and again being overlooked here.

Today, Frank opted to use Djed Spence as a winger, and in the second half turned to Destiny Udogie on the left ahead of Tel.

If full-backs are ahead of him in the pecking order, it is no surprise the Frenchman is considering a move away this winter.

Paris FC are understood to be offering a starting role in Tel’s preferred position, while AS Roma also remain keen on the young international.

Tottenham edging closer to a relegation scrap

Two wins in the last fourteen outings scream relegation form, and that is the direction Tottenham are heading with each passing week.

West Ham United secured a victory today while Spurs were held to a draw, leaving the gap between the two sides at just eight points.

With fixtures against Manchester City, Newcastle United, Manchester United, Arsenal and Fulham to come, a full-blown relegation battle is becoming an uncomfortable possibility.

Unless results improve quickly, Spurs could soon find themselves dragged firmly into the fight.

January reinforcements are no longer optional for Spurs

Adding more bodies is now essential if Tottenham are to rescue their season.

Conor Gallagher and Souza are useful additions, but they are simply not enough when relegation-threatened sides such as Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham United and Burnley have all taken points from Spurs.

Further reinforcements are vital, particularly with the injury crisis leaving several players sidelined long-term.

There is talk of Andy Robertson joining, but that alone will not move the needle, and given Tottenham’s history in the winter window, there is a growing fear that Spurs will fall short again, leaving supporters facing a long, uncomfortable run-in.
