Tottenham plotting to sign Andy Robertson from Liverpool
Tottenham Hotspur are plotting to sign Liverpool star Andy Roberton in the 2026 winter transfer window.
Spurs initially planned to pursue a deal for the 31-year-old in the summer.
But that pursuit has been brought forward in an effort to strengthen head coach Thomas Frank’s squad immediately, per The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
Robertson has fallen down the pecking order after Liverpool splashed a £40 million fee to sign Milos Kerkez last summer.
He has made only 13 Premier League appearances so far this campaign, with nine coming off the bench.
Destiny Udogie has been Tottenham’s first-choice left-back since he joined the club in 2023.
But injury issues have limited his involvement this season, with the Italian starting only six Premier League games.
Djed Spence has often played on the left side of defence, despite being a right-back as his natural position.
Ben Davies also filled in at left-back in recent weeks, but the Welsh footballer picked up an ankle injury during last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham United. Davies is set to undergo a surgery on Monday.
Tottenham are keen to land Robertson in January, as he is a proven Premier League performer who would add quality, experience and leadership to the squad.
The Scotland international has been one of the best servants for Liverpool since joining the club from Hull City in 2017.
He has helped the Reds lift two Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2019.
Robertson has made 363 appearances across all competitions, with 12 goals and 68 assists to his name.
He is a top left-back who is known for his relentless energy, excellent crossing and tireless overlapping runs.
But Robertson is now on the wrong side of 30 and an Anfield exit looks imminent, with his contract at the club ending in June.
