General Football forum • Re: Manager Merry-Go-Round
Losing your captain with no time left to replace him due to the snide timing of the shites offer could have lost them more than £15m though and would have seen the season start under a massive cloud with pressure on the owners, a pissed off manager and a team missing its leader. The other side of the argument here is that they had £35m offer in the summer window that they turned down at Glasner's request.
Then in October, less than 2 months later, he tells them he's not re-signing.
Why try to keep him happy? Why turn down an offer for a player you are going to lose for free in a few months to appease a manager who is leaving regardless?
Palace needs the money to re-invest, why not give the incoming manager a bigger war chest and a bigger chance of success? They aren't going anywhere this season as it is.
Taking £20m now when they're safe, the manager has confirmed he's off and they've got time to plan a full rebuild for the summer makes sense.
