‘Fearless’ wonderkid shines but Man United U21s surrender two-goal lead at Fulham in PL2
Manchester United U21s surrendered a two-goal lead as they played out a 2-2 draw at Fulham in the Premier League 2 on Friday evening.
Shea Lacey returned to action for Travis Binnion’s side in the fixture, marking his sixth appearance in the competition.
United got off to a dream start, opening the scoring in the 14th minute. Lacey was brought down in the area, and the forward stepped up to convert the resultant spot-kick.
Described as ‘fearless‘ by coach Darren Fletcher, Lacey doubled United’s lead, receiving a pass from Jacob Devaney and did well to smash the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper.
United appeared to be heading into the break with a two-goal lead, but Farhan Ali Wahid struck on the stroke of halftime to halve Fulham’s deficit.
Lacey almost restored United’s two-goal cushion before the hour mark, cutting onto his left foot, before curling a shot towards goal, only to be denied by the woodwork.
Ali Wahid completed the comeback for Fulham, skipping past his marker before firing a shot beyond Will Murdock to net his second of the night.
United still sit top of the Premier League 2 standings, three points clear of second-placed Fulham. They face Brighton & Hove Albion at home in their next league fixture on January 26.
Binnion’s side are back in action on Tuesday, when they host Sporting CP in the Premier League International Cup.
