Man United make transfer decision on ‘special' star and two others – report

0 3

Kobbie Mainoo, Joshua Zirkzee, and Manuel Ugarte are all expected to remain at Manchester United beyond this month, according to ESPN.

The trio have been linked with a move away from the club during the winter transfer window, having struggled for game time under former manager Ruben Amorim.

Mainoo had signalled his interest in leaving Old Trafford, drawing interest from clubs within and outside the Premier League.

Zirkzee has been heavily linked with Roma and the Dutch international is determined to join the Italian side this month.

Turkish giants Galatasaray have intensified their interest in Ugarte, who has made just seven starts across all competitions this term.

Described as ‘special‘ by legend Paul Scholes, Mainoo could benefit most from this decision, with regular appearances expected in interim manager Michael Carrick’s favoured 4-2-3-1 formation.

Ugarte could also get some game time, deputising for Casemiro in the number six role.

However, Zirkzee is likely to remain on the fringes, given the competition in the attacking department and the difficulty of rotating after United’s exit from the domestic cups.

Meanwhile, United have no plans to make new signings in the current window due to the unavailability of their ‘leading targets’ and they are not prepared to make stopgap signings to address the squad weaknesses.

Carrick will now work with the existing squad as United push to make a top-four finish.

The former midfielder will aim to kick off his reign with a Premier League victory over Manchester City at Old Trafford on Saturday.
