Where Conor Gallagher’s £35m move ranks in list of Tottenham’s all-time biggest transfer deals
Tottenham mean business this month, it seems, with a deal to sign Conor Gallagher imminent. But the £35m for the Atletico Madrid midfielder hardly breaks the bank.
Midfield reinforcements were the order of the day for Spurs in the January transfer window, clearly, with Conor Gallagher joining Thomas Frank’s squad in a surprise switch.
The former Chelsea man had been thought to be on his way to Aston Villa, but Fabrizio Romano confirmed Gallagher would be joining Spurs instead.
It’s believed Gallagher will cost Tottenham £35m, which is not a bad price at all, given his pedigree. So, where does he rank in the all-time record signings for Spurs?
Conor Gallagher is on par with Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven at Tottenham
Interestingly, that £34.64m deal, if we’re being really precise, doesn’t even put Gallagher in the top ten when it comes to expensive signings at Tottenham.
It does, however, put him level with both Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven, who also cost Tottenham €40m just like the Gallagher deal.
Suffice it to say, if Gallagher can have the impact of those two players at Spurs, then the fans will be more than happy with the new signing.
The Gallagher deal is more expensive than the acquisitions of Mathys Tel (£30m), Giovani Lo Celso (£27.7m), and Dejan Kulusevski (£26m).
A look at the top ten most expensive Spurs signings
Let’s take a look at those ahead of Gallagher in the list of Tottenham’s most expensive signings of all time. Coming in ever so slightly more costly is Archie Gray at number ten, who cost Spurs £35.72m according to Transfermarkt.
Davinson Sanchez is marginally more expensive at £36.37m while the £40.1m deal to sign James Maddison ranks at number eight on the list.
| Rank | Player | Cost |
| 1 | Xavi Simons | £56.3m |
| 2 | Dominic Solanke | £55.68m |
| 3 | Mohammed Kudus | £55.25m |
| 4 | Tanguy Ndombele | £53.69m |
| 5 | Richarlison | £50.23m |
| 6 | Brennan Johnson | £47.63m |
| 7 | Cristian Romero | £45.03m |
| 8 | James Maddison | £40.09m |
| 9 | Davinson Sanchez | £36.37m |
| 10 | Archie Gray | £35.72m |
Cristian Romero (£45m) and Brennan Johnson (£47.6m) are next on the list, while Richarlison kicks off the top five with a fee of just over £50m when he signed in 2022.
Former record signing Tanguy Ndombele is now fourth, after costing Spurs around £53.7m. He’s since been surpassed by Mohammed Kudus (£55.25m) and Dominic Solanke (£55.68m). Xavi Simons is Tottenham’s most expensive signing of all time, with his move costing roughly £56.3m last summer.
