Thomas Frank promises Tottenham fans to ‘build a windmill’ and not a ‘fence to hide behind’

0 12

Thomas Frank has pushed back against growing frustration at Tottenham Hotspur, insisting recent results have not reflected the level of performance his side has produced over the past few weeks.

Tottenham Hotspur’s recent form has seen them slip further down the Premier League table as they continue to struggle for wins.

Their last five league outings have produced just one victory and a disappointing return of five points from a possible 15, leaving Frank’s side 14th and only six points clear of 17th.

That run has left many Tottenham supporters increasingly frustrated, with criticism aimed squarely at the head coach, although the Spurs boss believes his team have been unlucky in their last few matches.

Thomas Frank believes Tottenham deserve more points

Speaking to football.london, Thomas Frank reflected on Tottenham’s last five league matches and explained why he feels the results have not matched the performances.

The Spurs head coach pointed to the standard of opposition faced and argued his side should have taken far more points from that run, while also addressing the scrutiny he is facing as results continue to falter.

He said, “I think there’s a couple of things in it. I think the last five games we played, Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Brentford, Sunderland and Bournemouth, I think it’s been consistent, good competitive performance through the roof?

“No, but good competitive, consistent performances and that’s what you need in a long season. Those five games should have given us more than the five points we got, probably eight, nine, 10 points.

“And if you get that from those games, it’s different. So that’s what we’re focusing on. Can we produce performances like that last night? Overall, like the performance, it’s my job to deal with all the scrutiny. It’s no problem, I can face all the questions, I’ll take all the blame, I’ll take all that.

“Also, my job is to look through everything and look through the defeat last night. Of course, it was very emotional and tough to take for everyone, but I think it was in many ways good and we deserve more from that.

“So we just need to keep doing that, especially the last two games, it’s a minimum of four points we should have, if not more. So we just need to keep doing that. And the next thing is, it’s almost the perfect storm.

“In a storm, some are building fences and hiding behind it, others are building windmills and getting stronger and getting more energy and learning from it.”

Spurs still paying the price for fine margins

Wednesday night’s defeat was one Spurs could realistically argue they deserved more from, having outperformed Bournemouth across several attacking metrics.

However, football rarely rewards what a team deserves, particularly this season, where narrow leads have often proved insufficient to see games out.

Frank’s side took the lead against the Cherries but spent much of the contest chasing control, failing to dominate the fixture consistently over the course of ninety minutes, and that remains an area the Dane must address.
