Perfect timing: Man United receive huge Kobbie Mainoo update after Amorim bombshell
Manchester United have received a major fitness boost on the day Ruben Amorim has been sacked from his managerial position.
According to reliable insider Sully Talkz, Kobbie Mainoo is closing in on a return from a calf problem he suffered before the Aston Villa clash last month.
He has been doing individual training for a week now but the club are determined not to rush him back and risk aggravating the problem.
This is a major boost for United who have been without their eight senior players due to injuries and international commitments in the last two games.
Bruno Fernandes is expected to make his return from hamstring injury tomorrow against Burnley.
The Red Devils have sorely missed Fernandes’ influence, with creativity drying up in the absence of him, Mason Mount, Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo.
Mainoo’s injury could not have come at a worse moment, denying him the chance to stake his claim when Fernandes was forced onto the sidelines.
The England international had a clear pathway to the starting number eight spot, a position occupied by captain Fernandes.
All eyes will also be on the dugout at Turf Moor, where former United midfielder Darren Fletcher will take charge.
Fletcher could remain in place as caretaker manager until the club settle on an interim appointment to see out the season.
Mainoo is set to earn more game time under Fletcher as he is known to favour systems such as 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.
The 20-year-old may not be fit to face Burnley but could play a part in the FA Cup encounter against Brighton & Hove Albion.
