Marc Guehi saga takes another twist as Liverpool make surprise decision

0 2

Liverpool are understood to be leaning towards a patient approach in their pursuit of Marc Guéhi, with the club preferring to wait until the summer rather than making a January move for the Crystal Palace defender, according to Daily Mail.

While Guéhi has been on Liverpool’s radar for some time, the Reds believe that delaying any formal approach could prove both strategically and financially beneficial.

The 25-year-old England international has established himself as one of the most consistent centre-backs in the Premier League, becoming club captain at Crystal Palace and a key figure under Oliver Glasner.

His leadership, composure on the ball and ability to play out from the back make him an ideal fit for Liverpool’s long-term defensive plans.

Liverpool ready to wait till the summer for Guéhi

One of the main factors influencing Liverpool’s thinking is Guéhi’s contract situation. The defender is approaching the final year of his deal at Selhurst Park, which strengthens Liverpool’s hand if they wait.

Palace are reluctant to lose their captain mid-season, especially with their ambitions of maintaining stability and pushing for a strong second half of the campaign.

A January sale would likely require a premium fee to compensate for the sporting disruption, something Liverpool are keen to avoid.

From Liverpool’s perspective, there is no urgent need to rush. While injuries and rotation have tested the squad at times, the Reds feel they have enough defensive cover to see out the season.

Internally, the club would prefer to address any defensive reinforcements in a more considered summer window, when market conditions are clearer and negotiations are less pressured.

By waiting until the summer, Liverpool could secure the signing of Guéhi for free instead of paying money for him in January.

This decision shows that manager Arne Slot has complete faith in his current defensive options of Virgil Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.

However, more than that, it appears like a decision that is based on financial situation.

Guéhi himself is thought to be open to a move to a Champions League-level club, and Liverpool’s sporting project remains highly attractive.

After his failed move to Anfield in the summer, the defender is determined to make it happen next year.

While other clubs in England and Europe continue to monitor his situation, the Reds are confident that patience could place them at the front of the queue when the time is right.
